What is domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care simply means care that comes to you. Instead of moving into a care home, a trained care professional visits at agreed times to help with the things that have become harder, while everything familiar stays exactly where it is: the same bed, the same kitchen, the same neighbours and the same routine.
For many people it starts small. A little help getting washed and dressed, a reminder to take medication, someone to prepare a hot meal or to sit and talk for an hour. Over time it can grow into several visits a day, or overnight support, without anyone having to leave home.
We support people living with age-related frailty, mobility difficulties, dementia, Parkinson's, stroke recovery and long-term conditions, as well as family carers who need a reliable break.
Support built around one person
No two care plans look the same, because no two households run the same way. We start from the routine that already exists, then agree which tasks we take on, at what time of day and how often, and what should always stay in the person's own hands.
Preferences matter as much as tasks. Whether someone likes an early start or a slow morning, prefers a shower to a bath, takes sugar in their tea or would rather have the radio on than the television, we write it down and we follow it. Families are kept informed, and the plan is reviewed as things change.

1. A friendly conversation
Tell us what is happening day to day and what you are hoping for. There is no cost and no obligation to go ahead.
2. A needs assessment
We visit at a convenient time to look at routines, mobility, medication, meals and the home itself, then agree what support would help.
3. A personalised care plan
We write the plan with you and the family, choose the services and visit times, and match a care professional to the person, not just the task.
4. Ongoing review
Care is recorded at each visit and the plan is reviewed regularly, so support can be increased, reduced or changed as needs change.

What is domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care, also called home care, is support delivered in someone's own home instead of in a care home or hospital. It can be as light as a weekly hour of companionship or as involved as several visits a day plus overnight support.
How short or long can a visit be?
Visits are arranged around what is genuinely needed, from a short call to help with medication or a meal, through to longer visits, overnight cover and full-day support. We will talk you through the practical options for the schedule you have in mind.
Can we combine several services?
Yes. Most care plans mix a few of the services on this page, such as personal care in the morning, a meal at lunchtime and companionship in the afternoon. Everything sits in one plan with one point of contact.
Who will be coming into the home?
Trained care professionals who are DBS checked and supported by our management team. We aim to keep the same familiar faces visiting so trust can build over time.
How quickly can care start?
We can often arrange support quickly, including in urgent situations after a fall or a hospital discharge. Get in touch and we will be honest with you about what we can put in place and when.
What if we need a care home later on?
Altrua Care also runs a residential care home in Doncaster, so if living at home becomes too difficult, or you need respite, you can talk to the same team about a short stay or a permanent place.
