Being able to shop for food is an essential part of maintaining health and independence at any stage of life. At Altrua Care, we help individuals retain control over their food choices with our grocery delivery and escorted shopping services.
Why can food shopping become difficult later in life?
Research shows that many older people encounter barriers to food shopping. The right practical support can help people retain choice and independence.

Arranging shopping support
We start by agreeing how you would like to shop: a trip out with a care professional, a hand with an online order, or a list we take care of on your behalf. Before support starts, we agree your shopping preferences, budget and how purchases and receipts will be handled, so everything stays clear for you and your family.
Shopping is often combined with meal preparation or home help, so the cupboards are stocked and something hot is ready on the same visit. Get in touch and we will talk through what would suit your week.
Escorted services
These services are ideal for individuals who are able to go out but may need extra assistance with transport and moving around the store. We offer one-to-one support, where an Altrua Care team member assists with shopping, as well as group shopping trips. Alongside shopping support, these outings give people, especially those who live alone, a chance to get out and socialise.
Home delivery services
For those who are housebound and unable to do their own shopping, Altrua Care works closely with them to create a shopping list, and their groceries are then delivered directly to their home.
Internet shopping services
Some local Altrua Care services offer food shopping using supermarkets’ online stores. Orders are placed on behalf of the service user, and delivery is arranged at an agreed date and time. This allows individuals to enjoy the benefits of online shopping, even if they do not have internet access, while ensuring a regular food supply that they control. A small charge may apply for these services to help cover costs, such as fuel or delivery fees.
